Birmingham Clinical Research Office

The Birmingham Clinical Research Office (BCRO) is a joint office between the research offices of the University of Birmingham (UoB) and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBFT).

The R&D office from UHBFT is managed by Dr Chris Counsell, with support from Helen Langston, Kabir Mohammed and Joy Johnson. Members from the UoB (College and Medical and Dental Sciences Research and Knowledge Transfer Office) include Dr Catherine Moore with support from the UoB Research and Commercial Services (Craig Maskall, Dave Windridge and David Stevens). This joint office works closely with the Protocol Development service (PDS)

The purpose of the office is to simplify for the researcher the processes associated with undertaking clinical research by:

            •  Coordinating activities between the partner organisations
            •  Exchanging knowledge and information
            •  Eliminating administrative duplication
            •  Sharing governance responsibilities

Where the intended research application involves collaboration between UoB and UHBFT, the office will support administrative aspects including costings from both institutions, ethics and regulatory & institutional approvals, and arranging sign-off for clinical trial agreements and contracts.

Although certain administrative functions will remain specific to UHBFT or UoB, the BCRO will act as the central coordinating office and "front door" for all aspects of research administration and governance.

The BCRO is located at the address below:
HSRC Building (Nr Medical School Extension)
West Campus, University of Birmingham
Edgbaston
