Normal Features : Racial Pigmentation

This image shows increased pigmentation of the retina which is a normal finding in Asian and West Indian races. This reflects increased amounts of choroidal and retinal melanin.

Above and below the optic disc, and following an arc along the pathway of the retinal vessels, are areas where the retina appears pale. This is a nerve fibre reflex (light reflection) and is a normal variant.
