Appendices

These data refer to all cancer sites (excluding non-melanoma) diagnosed between 1992 and 1996. Cases were excluded if they did not have a valid postcode or if the patients were residents outside the West Midlands Health region. There are over 100,000 cases registered at the West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit (WMCIU) in the period 1992 to 1996. These were then grouped together into Primary Care Groups (PCGs) using the allocation given by each Health Authority (see section 1).

Cancer sites included in the analysis are:

  • All sites - persons, male, female
  • Breast - female
  • Colorectal - persons
  • Lung - persons

The data have been divided into three broad age bands, under 45, 45 to 64 and 65 and over. The total number of cases for each age band and total for the five-year period for each PCG is given in tabulated form. The data have been ordered by Health Authority and within each Health Authority by the calculated crude rate.

Tables of PCG cancer data are included in Appendix 3.
