1.1. IntroductionAcross the West Midlands region there are 30 Primary Care Trusts (PCT) and 3 Strategic Health Authorities (SHA). The membership of these areas is described in Figure 1.1 and Table 1.1. To relate the health geography to that of local government Figure 1.2 and Table 1.2 describe the location of local authorities in the SHA framework.
1.2. Population of the West MidlandsUsing the figures from the 2001 Census updated populations for local authorities and strategic health authorities have been produced. Populations for PCTs will follow in the near future from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Here we report the population of the region, SHAs and local authorities by gender (Table1.3) and pyramids for the West Midlands region and the SHAs (Figs 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6). |
