1. Ethnic Minorities in Worcester CityA pilot scheme of five years targeting the small Pakistani and Bangladeshi community. The scheme will increase educational, training and employment levels by coaching, mentoring, helping with job skills and identifying jobs. It will raise awareness within the community and employers 6f 'each other's needs, and widen employment horizons and aspirations beyond traditional cultural areas.- To ensure close links with New Deal, 2 ethnic minority workers (male and female) will be based at Worcester Job Centre. Key Outputs: All Ethnic Minorities: 2 jobs created; 120 pupils benefiting from projects designed to improve attainment; 7,550 training weeks; 375 people trained obtaining jobs of which 325 were formerly unemployed; 10 people entering self employment; 125 young people involved in projects to promote personal and social development; 35 employers involved in collaborative projects to improve student performance. Costs: CFY1: £20k CF Total: £100k Scheme Total: £212,374 2. Community Safety In BirminghamThis seven year scheme seeks to develop a positive community response to crime and community safely to reduce the barriers they cause to social and economic regeneration. Projects will cover the areas of community safety (especially women's safety), fire safety, racial harassment, drugs prevention and support packages for residents, youth, family and community. Key Outputs: 315 jobs created
or safeguarded; 87,525 young people benefiting from projects to promote
personal and social development; 31,378 people benefiting from Community
safety initiatives; 3,687 dwellings and 565 commercial buildings will have
security upgraded; 38 community safety initiatives; 113 youth crime
prevention Costs: CFY1: £383 CF Total: £9,888k Scheme Total: £31,933k 3. Local Jobs for Local People - DudleyThis six year scheme focuses on the skilling for job opportunities at Merry Hill and adjoining Industrial Estates. A training centre will be established offering programmes and child care with links to job vacancies at Merry Hill. Regeneration support will be given to the Industrial Estates to create jobs that will also link to, the training centres. New Deal linkages will 4be in creating opportunities for clients and involving residents who fall outside New Deal's parameters. Key Outputs: 148 jobs created, 600 people trained obtaining qualifications, 300 residents accessing employment through training, 3100 training weeks, 5,000 sq. m. new business/commercial floorspace, 69 childcare places. Costs: CFY1: £93k CF Total: £1,849k Scheme Total: £7,052k 4. Wolverhampton Connects ProgrammeThis seven year scheme aims to improve skills and access to employment for disadvantaged groups - long term unemployed, ethnic minorities, disabled, example offenders and those with alcohol / drug related problems. A multi agency approach will be adopted and an intermediate labour market created. Community learning centres will be established, employment opportunities will be created, employers involved in education, mentoring, skills training, etc will be addressed. It will maximise the scope and impact of New Deal by complementing and extending it. Key Outputs: 850 jobs created, 850 pupils benefiting from projects designed to improve / enhance attainment, 690 people training obtaining qualifications, 1,030 residents in target area accessing employment, 95 people entering self-employment, 125 new business start ups. Costs: CFY1: £270k CF Total: £5,400k Scheme Total: £11,599.2k 5. Teme Working: A Partnership in ActionTenbury / Burford on Hereford / Shropshire border. This five year scheme will address the impact on this small rural area of the closure of a major local employer and the consequent loss of jobs. The scheme will enhance and diversify employment opportunities by supporting local businesses, recreating the "market towns" as a focus of service provision to the community, develop land to encouge businesses to remain local. Skill training will be offered to the workforce to increase their competitiveness and employability. Community support and development of improved transport initiatives. It plans to ensure that 75% of major employers participate in New Deal. Key Outputs: 900 jobs created/safeguarded, 2000 training weeks, 6000.sq. m new business / commercial floorspace, 1 00 childcare spaces. 6. Raising Standards in Education, Learning and Employability - WalsallThis seven year scheme aims to improve standard in education, skills and learning. Partnerships with public and private sector will create and sustain local job and training opportunities to complement Welfare to Work. Initiatives will include drugs prevention through peer pressure, community safety strategy, health, housing development links to job opportunities. Potential developers / employers targeted to take advantage of the new human resources in the area. Education projects include family literacy. Key Outputs: 1,010 jobs created, 12,688 pupils benefiting from projects to enhance educational attainment, 2,203 people trained obtaining qualifications, 52,080 training weeks, 881 people trained obtaining jobs, 19,845 young people benefiting from projects to promote personal and social development, 516 employers in collaboration to improve student performance, 9,825 community safety beneficiaries, 907 child care places. Costs: CFY1: £1,214k CF Total: £6,370k Scheme Total £44,126k 7. Acting For Social inclusion: Birmingham Can!!This seven year capacity building scheme will establish a network to strengthen voluntary groups in the most disadvantaged areas and support local communities to become more involved in local decision making. It will seek to equip these groups with appropriate skills and to support community based organisations to create job opportunities and deliver local services. A Social Exclusion Unit will establish local workers who will encourage partnerships at local level to sustain community involvement. One aspect will be to prepare voluntary organisations to. contract for Welfare to Work. Key Outputs: 365 jobs created or safeguarded, 175 young people benefiting from projects to promote personal and social development, 525 voluntary organisations supported, 645 community groups supported, 450 voluntarylcommunity groups supported from predominantly excluded groups, 4,980 individuals engaged in voluntary work, 15 community enterprise start-ups, 260 voluntary organisations receiving business or capacity building support, 125 child care places, 1,050 voluntary / community groups involved in local partnerships. Costs: CFY1: £125k CF Total: £4,250k Scheme Total: £9,725k 8. The Stoke ApproachThis seven year scheme aims to tackle the multiple causes of deprivation and social exclusion through a strong partnership and community focus / involvement. The scheme will provide community development initiatives, education projects to raise aspirations and attainment especially through IT, promote lifetime learning and health awareness, address a local racial harmony issue. Improve housing stock through structural improvements, energy efficiency and environmental security initiatives. Promote regeneration by reclaiming derelict areas for economic development opportunities. Key Outputs: 709 jobs created and safeguarded, 9,132 training weeks; 1,649 pupils benefiting from projects to enhance educational attainment; 19,990 sq. m. of new and improved business floor space, 16.5 ha land reclaimed for development; 1,580 young people benefiting from projects to promote personal and social development; 7,062 people benefiting from community safety initiatives; 569 people involved in community work; 118 childcare places provided. Costs: CFY1: £651k CF Total: £8,682k Scheme Total: £55,087k 9. Regenerating SmethwickThis seven year scheme aims to optimise incomes, raise educational standards, improve skill levels, health and community safely. Community development with a positive focus on high level ethnic minority involvement will be a top priority. Initiatives are for young people, lone parents, community safety, health, bilingual employment course, early intervention in educational underachievement involving parents. A pilot youth employment project will complement New Deal. Key Outputs: 370 jobs created, 2,470 pupils benefiting from projects to enhance educational attainment, 800 people trained obtaining qualifications, 1,500 residents accessing employment through training, 760 training weeks, 18,500 sq. m new or improved floorspace, 729 dwellings improved/completed, 45 child care places. Costs: CFY1: £500k CF Total : £10,750k Scheme Total: £64,650k 10. Drug Prevention And Regeneration (Black Country)This five year scheme aims to inform the communities on drug-related issues that affect health, social and economic welfare and to reduce drug related crime. Projects include: community radio for young people to promote drug prevention; provide opportunities for media / art training; outreach work on drug and alcohol abuse prevention leading to I.T. training; mentoring and family support against drugs; evaluation to feed into drug prevention knowledge base. Plans to link New Deal options provided to SRB projects to facilitate client access. Key Outputs: 5,840 pupils benefiting from projects to enhance educational attainment, 450 people trained obtaining qualifications, 230 residents accessing employment through training, 16,650 young people benefiting from projects to promote personal and social development, 30. 000 beneficiaries of community safety initiatives, 16,800 gaining access to new health opportunities, 15 childcare places. Costs: CFY1: £249k CF Total: £1,062k Scheme Total: £2,174k 11. The Regeneration of Biddulph EastThis six year scheme covers a small example-mining community that has suffered from colliery closures. Projects will tackle low educational achievement through literacy and skill training., crime prevention and community safety through developing a strategy of improved street lighting and personal security measures; community initiatives to enhance quality of life and local capacity. Environmental improvements to combat poor and untidy landscape. Plans to link a WEA project for the educationally disadvantaged to Welfare to Work. Key Outputs: 825 pupils
