Who We Work With

The University of University and UHBFT already enjoy a strong working partnership, and both organisations have benefited from a physical campus co-location for more than 50 years, with the University’s Medical School and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital sited next door to each other.

This partnership is being taken to new levels through the formation of the Birmingham Clinical Research Academy where, together, we can deliver the best in medical care, taking cutting edge research from the laboratory bench to patient bedside.

We currently work with:

Birmingham Research Training Collaborative (BRTC)
Established in 2004 to provide education and training for healthcare researchers in Birmingham.

Pan Birmingham Cancer Research Network
Formed in 2001 to link together the organisations that provide care for people with cancer across Birmingham. Pan Birmingham Cancer Research network works closely with patients, carers, health professionals and managers to help implement the NHS Cancer Plan for the people of Birmingham.

Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (WTCRF)
Aims to provide a high quality clinical environment where patients can undergo research programmes safely and effectively; to translate research into clinical care; and to promote clinical research within the NHS.

Birmingham and the Black Country Comprehensive Local Research Network (CLRN)
Provides high quality NHS infrastructure for clinical research including support staff and support for clinical investigators, and funding for other NHS Service Support Costs.

West Midlands Research Design Service (WMRDS)
The Research Design Service for the West Midlands (RDS WM) is part of the infrastructure of the National Institute for Health Research and provides help to anyone working in the West Midlands region who wants to turn a ‘good idea’ into a research proposal for submission to peer-reviewed funding programmes in applied health and social care.

MRC Midland Hub for Trials Methodology Research at University of Birmingham
One of seven hubs established to improve methods to design, conduct analyse and report clinical trials. The Hub has a wealth of experience in trial methodology for a wide range of clinical specialities and has particular expertise in quality of life evaluation for clinical and health economic assessment, discovery and evaluation of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers, Bayesian methods for the design and analysis of trials and systematic reviews for clinical and health economic evaluation.


College of Medical and Dental Sciences
The College brings together healthcare-related research and education including medicine, dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy. Its mission is to develop and nurture excellence in basic and clinical science to improve human health.

 

Research and Commercial Services
Help to shape strategy and policy in research and enterprise, supporting academic staff involved in research and commercial activity, forge relationships with external sponsors and partners and act as a gateway to the University's knowledge and expertise.  For more information see the RCS factsheet
